Overview

West Hill Park, the second largest comprehensive park in Guilin (the largest is the Seven-Star Park), covers an area of. 2 square kilometers (0.8 square miles). It is divided into three parts, the West Mountain, the Ying Mountain and West Lake.

West Hill

West Hill consists of West Peak, Goddess of Mercy Peak, Dragon Head Peak and Qianshan Hill. At its entrance stand a Guilin-Kumamoto China-Japan Friendship Center and Guilin Museum. As one of the five Buddhism Mountain, West Mountain served as a Buddhist shrine in the Tang Dynasty(618– 907), with Xiqinglin Temple on it. A total of over 90 shrines and 200 Cliffside images reflect the unique Buddhism culture of south China.

Transportation: Travelers can take No.14, No.3 and No.29 buses to get there.

Guilin Museum

Guilin Museum is located inside West Mountain Park. It enjoys a collection of more than 21,500 pieces of cultural relics, famous for the Ming and Qing blue and white porcelain and 11 ethnic heritages of Guangxi Province. The most valuable collection must be more than 300 pieces of blue and white porcelain plum vase of the Ming Dynasty (1368–1644). The number and value rank first in the country.

Its first exhibition hall with a subject of Guilin historical relics displays the 30000-year history and rich culture; the second hall, named as Guangxi Ethnic Folk display preserves relics in 11 ethnics’ daily life, production and culture; the third hall, International friends gifts on display shows the communication between Guilin and outside world; the last but not least hall display over 200 pieces of blue and white porcelains of the Ming and Qing (1636–1911) Dynasty.

Guilin-Kumamoto China-Japan Friendship Center

It was completed in October, 1990, with an area of 947 square meters. The whole building in Japanese residential architecture style consists of ordinary exhibition, special exhibition and Memorial Garden. Inside the ordinary exhibition visitors can see traditional Japanese tea room, and some photographs and crafts. In the special exhibition often organize various exchanges between the two cities. And the Memorial Garden reflects the living customs of Kumamoto people. The center is a symbol of friendship and cooperation between the two cities.
