The Total Retail Sales of Consumer Goods Up by 13.2 Percent in the First Half of 2005

In the first half of 2005, the total retail sales of consumer goods reached 2961.0 billion yuan, increased by 13.2 percent compared with the same period of the previous year. Of which, the increase rate for June was 12.9 percent.

In terms of different regions, the total retail sales of consumer goods in the urban area was 1988.2 billion yuan, increased by 14.2 percent; the total retail sales of consumer goods in the area of county and below county level was 972.7 billion yuan, rose by 11.1 percent.

In terms of different industries, the total retail sales for wholesale and retail industry was 2473.9 billion yuan, up by 12.9 percent; that for catering services sector was 401.6 billion yuan, up by 17.9 percent; that of other sectors was 85.4 billion yuan, up by 0.1 percent.

In view of different goods, Among the wholesale and retail sector above designated size, the retail sales for eating, clothing and daily articles rose by 16.9, 20.5 and 18.0 percent respectively. Those of grain and edible oil up by 37.8 percent, that of meat, poultry and eggs rose by 23.7 percent, that of dress up by 21.6 percent, that of culture and office articles increased by 7.4 percent, that of books, newspapers and magazines up by 9.3 percent, that of sports and recreation articles rose by 20 percent, that of daily articles increased by 12.2 percent, that of family electrical equipment and AV equipment increased by 17.4 percent, that of furniture rose by 14.3 percent, that of Chinese traditional and western medicines up by 13.2 percent, that of cosmetics increased by 21.6 percent, that of jewelry increased by 17.3 percent, that of communication equipment rose by 20 percent, that of automobile increased by 9.7 percent, that of oil and oil products up by 37.4 percent.
