Sinopec Beihai Petrochemical is expected to put a 5-mil-mt/yr crude distillate unit into production in the third quarter of 2011, when it would eliminate a 600,000-mt/yr old one, a refinery source said.

As reported earlier, Beihai Petrochemical's 5-mil-mt/yr oil refining project would be affiliated by a 300,000-DWT crude jetty in Weizhou Island, 3.2-mil-cu-m commercial crude storage at Tieshan port, the Beihai-Nanning Oil Product Pipeline and a crude pipeline linking Tieshan port and Zhanjiang City in neighboring Guangdong Province.

Oil refining capacity of the refinery would be doubled in the future, according to the source.

Beihai Petrochemical, located in Southwest China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, has a topping capacity of 600,000mt per year at present.

Sinopec's rival PetroChina is scheduled to bring on stream 10-mil-mt/yr Qinzhou refinery in Guangxi at the end of August.
