Cuban President Fidel Castro on January 14, 2006 presented an event celebrating of 12 diesel locomotives that arrived in Havana by ship from China a week earlier. He is satisfied to the quality of locomotives and smiled said that they are very comfortable. He wished the locomotives smoothly put into use.

The contract of supplying 12 Type Df 7G -C diesel locomotives for Cuba was signed in Beijing on January 24, 2005. This is one of the main cooperation projects after China President Hu Jintao visited the Republic of Cuba in November 2004. The locomotives are built by CNR Beijing February 7th Locomotive Works.

China became Cuba s second-largest trading partner after Venezuela in 2005. Chinese exports to Cuba grew 95 per cent in the first 10 months of 2005 to over US$500 million, while imports rose 17 per cent to US$200 million.
