Phase I Project of Gree's Hefei Manufacture Base Was Completed and Launched into Production

While other electric household appliance companies are crying "winter has come", Gree Electric Appliance (Gree), the top air conditioner manufacturer in China, still enjoys a warm spring.

On the morning of December 9, 2008, Boyan Technology Park in Hefei Hi-Tech Zone is overflowed with flying colorful banners and music of percussion instruments, as Gree held a grand ceremony to celebrate completion of Phase I Project of its manufacture base in Hefei.

By then Gree's annual capacity to produce household air conditioners jumped to 27 million sets, further strengthening its position as the leader of air conditioner sector.

This one in Hefei is the third base built by Gree in China; it is also the sixth base of it around the globe. Injected with an investment of more than RMB 1.5 billion, the base covers about 1,100 mu (1 mu = 1/15 of a hectare) and its size is only second to Zhuhai Headquarters among all air conditioner production bases of Gree. It also ranks as the largest specialized air conditioner production base in central and eastern China.

On September 20, 2006, Gree and Hefei Municipal Government concluded an investment agreement. On October 2006, Phase I Project was kicked off, aimed at building a household air conditioner assembly and part auxiliary project with annual production capacity of 3 million sets. Phase I Project covers a building area of 540,000 sqm, including workshops, staff dormitories and living facilities. The completion of the base in Hefei will spur the local auxiliary industries, in addition to meet the local market demand.

In his speech, Zhang Xiaolin (member of the Standing Committee of the Hefei CPC Municipal Committee and Executive Vice Mayor of Hefei) highly valued the base's enormous impetus to push forward the industrial layout and economic/social development of Hefei and even of the whole Anhui Province.

It is learnt that after Gree chose to build the base in Hefei, many auxiliary companies thronged to Hefei for development, thus creating about 10,000 jobs for Hefei and driving up GDP of Anhui Province and Hefei by about RMB 20 billion (directly and indirectly all together). In this way, the base helps to raise the income of local urban and rural residents, promote consumption and expand domestic demand. Meanwhile, Gree's hi-tech products built on proprietary intellectual rights will undoubtedly speed up Hefei's independent innovation and structural adjustment of its electric household appliance sector and spur the industrial upgrade.

Zhu Jianghong, the Board Chairman of Gree, said in his speech that to adapt itself to the market and its own development demand, Gree plans to use one to two years to construct the Phase II project. This project aims to expand Gree's production capacity of household air conditioner to 5 million sets per year. Within the same period, it will also expand a commercial air conditioner project with an annual output value of RMB 3 billion. Based on the demand of market development, Gree will also build a compressor project with annual production capacity of 3 million sets and so on.

To show its gratitude to the care and support rendered by the local government and residents to Gree's manufacture base in Hefei, on the celebration ceremony, Dong Mingzhu, the President of Gree, represented Gree to gift to Hefei Municipal Government the first Gree air conditioner it produced in Hefei. Additionally, it also donated 80 Gree air conditioners to Hefei Welfare Center for Children.
