The First Long-formation DMU with China s Own Intellectual Property Rights Unveiled

To address the rapidly growing demand for travel of the people, particularly the challenge of huge passenger flows during the Olympic Games, and expand the passenger transport capacities in China, Sifang Locomotive & Rolling Stock Co., Ltd., one of CSR s subsidiaries, unveiled the first long-formation 16 units DMU with China s own intellectual property rights whose speed is between 200 and 250km/h on June 29th. At present, such a model is under mass production. After a series of experiments, the first DMU of this kind will be officially launched on the Beijing-Qingdao Line before the Olympic Games.

Given the rapid development of the high-speed railways in China, the railway authorities has made its plans for the high-speed multiple-unit products in light of speed class, train arrangement and categories, and such products suitable for the natural and road conditions of China have been launched. The 16 units DMU with China s own intellectual property rights with a speed between 200 and 250 km/h is one of the series of products, which was developed and manufactured by China itself on the basis of digesting and absorbing the cutting-edge technologies around the world.

The newly-unveiled long-formation DMU adopts light aluminum alloy body, high-speed bogie bolster, high-speed pantograph, integrated optical fiber network control system, AC driving system and other structures representing the cutting-edge technologies around the world. The whole train consists of 3 Class One cars, 12 Class Two cars and 1 separate dining car.

The quota of passenger numbers is increased to 1,230, double of that of an 8-unit train that has been in operation. To make it more recreational and comfortable for passengers taking the train, the designers added a new type of separate dining car, multi-media film and TV systems, new type of ventilation systems and emergency ventilation systems.

To make it more stable during high-speed operation, the designers also adopted such cutting-edge technologies like semi-automatic hanging and car-end coupling damper.

The first 6 multiple-unit trains with a speed of 300km/h and above developed by this manufacturer itself have passed the strict official line driving test, and their official operation will be launched on the Beijing-Tianjin Inter-City Line before the Olympic Games. The longer multiple-unit berth trains, the first kind in the world, are also being manufactured in the company around the clock, and it is predicted that they will be unveiled by the end of July, and then put under some tests before their official operation.
