The first batch of large-formation sleeper EMU in the world, which was independently developed by CSR Qingdao Sifang Locomotive & Rolling Stock Co., Ltd. has successfully completed the vehicle performance test and main line adaptability test in recent days, and was formally put into operation in lines of Beijing-Shanghai and Beijing-Hangzhou on December 21.

Large -formation sleeper EMU is independently researched, developed, designed, and manufactured in China to adapt to Chinese national conditions and meet the passenger transportation demand for large-volume and long-distance railways. Its successful development is also one of the significant achievements in the field of Chinese high-speed EMU which has implemented independent innovation and modernization of railway technology and equipment.

Composed by 13 sleeper cars, 2 seat cars and a dining car, the first 16-marshalled sleeper EMU is at a speed of 200-250km/h, which uses a form of mixed beds and seats. The EMU adopts advanced AC drive and control technology, composite brake technology, computer network control and automatic diagnosis as well as some other advanced technologies.

In order to realize the lightweight of sleeper EMU, the vehicle uses a modular and integrated design, so that the vehicle structure is further optimized. The vehicle body uses large-scale hollow extruded shape of aluminum alloy and a flexible structure for connection to effectively control the structural vibration at high-speed running of the sleeper EMU.

The vehicle uses a new noise-damping structure designed to effectively improve the passenger''s comfort in the cars, and also uses a new type of LED lighting lamps inside for the first time, which make the performance more prominent in energy saving and environmental protection.

The sleeper EMU underlines people-oriented design characteristics, which has achieved a lot of innovation at the man-machine interface and the passenger service system. For example, it further optimizes the cab design according to the principles of ergonomics, so that the driver s manipulation and information transmission become faster and more convenient; fresh and elegant package sleeper car compartments are equipped with humanized Information service facilities combined of movie, TV, entertainment, calling services, fire alarm etc.

On the way of traveling, passengers are able to have personalized selection of movie and television programs, emergent calling services, fire monitoring and so on; The newly designed air conditioning system lets passengers adjust the air-conditioning in the compartment as needed at any time; The dining car of sleeper EMU uses an air-feeding mode to directly send the semi-finished food heated in a microwave or oven to the hands of passengers, which meets the eating needs of passengers and maximizes the energy saving and environmental protection in the vehicle.

There is also a warm casual dining area in the dining car to create an elegant environment for the passengers to chat and communicate.

At present, the company has high-speed EMU series products of different speed grades and different marshalling forms covering 200-300 km/h and above.
