1st Vehicle for Guangzhou Rail Transit Line 2 & 8 extensions offline at CSR

On May 26, the first Type A subway train for Guangzhou Rail Transit Line 2 and 8 extensions independently developed by CSR Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Co., Ltd. CSR Zhuzhou rolled offline. In the project, the high-end Type A subway train jointly developed by CSR Zhuzhou and Guangzhou Metro effectively advanced the localization of Chinese rail transit vehicles and served as a high-grade, convenient and cozy means of transportation for citizens during the Guangzhou Asian Games next year.

In late 2007, CSR Zhuzhou and Guangzhou Metro entered into a contract on the supply of Type A subway vehicles for Line 2 and 8 extensions, under which CSR Zhuzhou shall deliver 27 trains 162 vehicles for the operations of Guangzhou Rail Transit Line 2 and 8. The project marshaled six vehicles into a train, with all vehicles running commonly on Line 1, 2 and 8. According to the Guangzhou rail transit network plan, Line 2 is scheduled to be separated on the basis of the existing lines in 2002 to make up new Line 2 and 8 with the extensions.

It is reported that to provide the best subway vehicles for Guangzhou rail transit, CSR Zhuzhou has polled advantageous resources and conducted lean manufacturing since project launch, and Guangzhou Metro has been actively involved in the development of the project vehicles by offering helpful opinions and suggestions.

The project fully drew on experience from the existing vehicles for Guangzhou rail transit and took the operating environment in Guangzhou as parameters, and the vehicles for Guangzhou Rail Transit Line 2 and 8 developed in the project adopt several advanced technologies, are advanced, safe and reliable, and exceed the international standards for static strength test; are equipped with modern systems for electronic maps, media playback, video monitoring, fire detection and emergency evacuation; use the automatic stop announcement system in Mandarin, Cantonese and English, indicate Line 1, 2 and 8 on the subway line map, and are equipped with eight video displays for each compartment to provide instant and full riding information.

Since 2003, CSR Zhuzhou has been actively involved in the construction of Guangzhou rail transit, struck three deals on subway vehicles for Guangzhou rail transit worth around RMB 4 billion, maintained deep cooperation with Guangzhou Metro in such respects as line network vehicle construction, vehicle overhaul and parts localization to provide strong support for the fast growth of Guangzhou s economy.

The 40 Type B subway trains tailored by CSR Zhuzhou to Guangzhou Rail Transit Line 3 went into operation in Guangzhou on December 26, 2005, hit a record high speed of 120km/h in China in May 2006, and have safely transported a total of over 100 million passengers to date.
