New MOR Harmony high-power electric locomotive order goes to CSR

On June 22, the ceremony for the signing of the contract on the purchase and sale of 400 Harmony high-power AC-driven electric locomotives between the Ministry of Railways MOR and China South Locomotive & Rolling Stock Corporation Limited CSR was held in Chengdu, Sichuan. 120 locomotives will be manufactured by CSR s enterprises in Sichuan - CSR Ziyang Locomotive Co., Ltd. and Ziyang CSR Electric Locomotive Co., Ltd., and this is MOR s another new major move in support of the post-disaster reconstruction of Sichuan.

The Harmony high-power AC-driven six-axle 7,200-kilowatt electric locomotive purchased by MOR is a re-innovation with completely independent intellectual property right on the basis of introducing and digesting the technology for high-power AC-driven electric locomotives. Since the holding of the Party s 16th National People s Congress , MOR has, according to the State Council s overall requirements of introducing advanced technology, joining hands for design and manufacture, and building a Chinese brand , vigorously implemented the strategy of introduction, digestion and re-innovation, centralized the needs of the railway market, organized domestic key locomotive manufacturing enterprises, and successfully introduced and comprehensively mastered the technology for system integration of the currently world s advanced and mature high-power AC-driven locomotives as well as key parts like body, bogie, control system, converter, transformer and traction motor. With a localization rate of 90%, the model, capable of towing a single freight train with a load of 5,000 to 5,500 tons at a speed of 120km/h, is currently the world s technologically advanced and most cost-effective railway traction power. It will become one of the major models for heavy-duty transportation on main railway lines in China.
