On December 5, Zhongwei-Huangpi trunk line of the eastern segment of the Second West-East Gas Pipeline became operational ahead of schedule. Gas imported from Turkmenistan began to be distributed to Hubei and Hunan provinces. This is of great significance to ease gas supply shortage, promote low-carbon development, and improve living condition in the region.
The western segment of the Second West-East Gas Pipeline, from Horgos in Xinjiang to Zhongwei in Ningxia, began operational on January 20, 2010. Construction of the 2,477 kilometers long eastern segment, from Zhongwei to Guangzhou, commenced on February 7, 2009 and planned to be completed in 2011. The 1,393 kilometers long Zhongwei-Huangpi trunk line starts from Zhongwei cross-link station in Ningxia and ends at Huangpi distribution station in the capital city of Hubei Province via Gansu, Shaanxi and Henan provinces.
