CAE Vice President Gan Yong attended "The Ninth China (Zibo) New Materials Technology Forum"

"The Ninth China (Zibo) New Materials Technology Forum", themed on "Prosperous City in New Materials" was held in Zibo, Shandong from September 6 to 8, 2010. This forum was co-hosted by the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and Shandong Provincial People's Government, and undertaken by the Chemical, Metallurgical and Materials Engi-neering Academic Division of CAE, Science and Technology Department of Shandong Province and Zibo Municipal Government.

Mr. Gan Yong, CAE Vice President, together with Mr. Li Zhaoqian, Vice Governor of Shandong Province addressed the opening ceremony. Mr. Shi Changxu, Honorary Chairman of the Chi-nese Materials Research Society, also Member of both CAE and CAS, awarded Zibo City a plaque written "Prosperous City in New Mate-rials".

Seventeen academicians and many ex-perts, professors and project R&D personnel coming from more than 80 institutions of higher learning and research institutes across China attended the forum.

CAE Vice President Gan Yong expressed his congratulations on the successful com-mencement of the forum and other serial activi-ties in his address, on behalf of CAE. Gan also said that China (Zibo) New Materials Technol-ogy Forum was initiated and founded jointly by CAE and the Shandong Provincial People s Government, under the framework of collabo-ration between Academies and Provinces, which has been held 8 times before hand.

The forum also arranged precious oppor-tunities for academicians, experts and enter-prises to achieve effective linking and commu-nication. Based upon their respective specia-lized areas, fellow participants of the forum, namely the academicians and experts, looked into and helped certain enterprises through field studies and academic exchanges, providing guidance for technology personnel to resolve technical problems in scientific researches, production and innovation, who also signed cooperation agreements or expressed intent for future collaboration.

Projects involved in the agreements signed during the forum covered more than ten different fields such as new ma-terials, new energy, electronic information, biomedicine, advanced manufacturing, resource conservation, environmental protection, energy conservation and emission reduction, modern service industry and agricultural high-tech.
