GUO Huadong director-general of CEODE (Center for Earth Observation and Digital Earth) and met Howard Moore, senior adviser of International Council for Sciences (ICSU) and Jane Rovins, executive director of the Integrated Research on Disaster Risk (IRDR) program in Beijing on June 1, 2010, .
In the welcome speech, Prof. Guo congratulated on Dr. Rovins' appointment as Executive Director of IRDR and considered the International Program Office (IPO) as a crucial role for the construction of international disaster mitigation platform. CEODE was committed to organize IRDR to be an international-class disaster research program and provide the necessary support to the IPO operation.
A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the two parties. It was predictable that the location of IPO-IRDR in CEODE would enhance the worldwide scientific research and the level of disaster prevention and mitigation for natural disasters and make a major contribute to emergency prevention and control.
