XIAMEN, Fujian - Robert D. Hormats, undersecretary of state for the United States, lauded Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping's speech illustrating China's move to optimize its investment climate as "very constructive".

Xi noted that China is committed to improving its protection of intellectual property, building a transparent legal environment and market amenity.

Hormats denied a Financial Times' report quoting him as saying "the lack of action by China to address US concerns will encourage more protectionist agenda".

He said that the US Congress still has pressure on China, but he believes the two countries are now working in a very "cooperative and constructive" manner.

He also revealed a strong ambition to promote US high-tech products in China, "not only the products made in the US but also the high-tech US products made in China," he stressed.

He expects the two countries could offer more level playing field for economic cooperation and investment potential.
