Beijing trade deficit rises 63% to $152b

BEIJING - Beijing, the Chinese capital, generated $243.2 billion in foreign trade in the first 10 months of the year, a 42-percent year-on-year rise, the local customs house said Saturday.

The total included $45.4 billion of exports, up 16.9 percent year-on-year, and $197.8 billion of imports, up 49.3 percent.

The city's trade deficit increased 62.7 percent year-on-year in the period to $152.4 billion.

Its trade with the United States jumped 26.7 percent year-on-year to $15.8 billion while that with Japan climbed 28.9 percent to $15 billion.

In the ten-month period, Beijing exported $27.75 billion worth of machinery and electronics, up 11.9 percent year-on-year, while it imported $53.6 billion of the goods, up 29.2 percent.
