Premiums up 33% in Jan-Aug

BEIJING - China's insurance regulator said Wednesday the country's insurance industry collected a combined 1.01 trillion yuan ($150 billion) in insurance premiums in the first eight months of 2010, up 33 percent year-on-year.

The growth rate was 13 percentage points higher than the 20-percent increase for the first seven months of 2010, the China Insurance Regulatory Commission said.

Premiums from life insurance grew to 738.07 billion yuan during the Jan-Aug period, while those from the property and casualty sector jumped to 271.83 billion yuan, the commission statement noted.
