BEIJING - Chinese fishermen's per capita income rose 9.76 percent year-on-year in 2010 to 8,963 yuan ($1,349), a Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) official said Thursday.

From 2006 to 2010, Chinese fishermen saw their net income rise 8.8 percent annually, and fishing had become a major source of increased income for rural people in some regions, said Niu Dun, Vice Minister of the MOA, at a national fisheries work conference.

The fishermen's growing income was based on rising aquatic products output, which was expected to reach 53.5 million tons this year, valued at 1.2 trillion yuan, according to statistics released by the MOA.

The MOA figures also showed that China's aquatic products output rose 4 percent annually from 2006 to 2010.
