Ministries to regulate hotel prices

Travelers looking to stay in hotels may soon see enhanced regulations on the price of their stay, people.com.cn reported Sunday.

According to the website, officials from the National Development and Reform Commission, National Tourism Administration and State Administration for Industry and Commerce co-issued an opinion Sunday, asking government price-supervising departments to enhance regulations on hotel guestrooms prices, especially those near tourist hot spots and major events.

They said temporary price limits could be imposed upon hotel rooms according to the country's laws. Other important information, such as current room prices and actual occupancy rate, should be disclosed to the public.

The move of the three ministries was triggered by the abnormal fluctuations in hotel prices in hot tourist spots, especially during national holidays and major events, which had been an interference factor to consumers.

In order to avoid unreasonable rises in cost, the opinion also suggested implementing a series of measures, such as establishing price supervising systems and information publishing systems, setting up contingency plans and improving related regulations.
