The World Trade Organization (WTO) published a report on Dec. 6 local time in Geneva saying that China is still the top target of anti-dumping investigations on the global market.
In the first half of the year, China was involved in 23 new anti-dumping investigations launched by other countries compared with 33 cases in the same period of last year. But the number is still higher than any other country in the world.
The European Union and the United States came in second and third place, with 11 and five cases, respectively.
There are also signs that trade protectionism is abating. The report shows that 69 new probes were initiated by 19 WTO members in the first half of 2010, which is 29 percent lower than the first half of 2009 when 98 cases were launched by 18 members.
The same trend has been seen in the anti-dumping measures that have actually been implemented. In the first half of the year, 14 members adopted 59 such measures, compared with 62 measures by 16 members.
India proved to be the most aggressive in taking actions against foreign products on its market. It launched 17 anti-dumping investigations, more than any other WTO member. It was followed by the European Union and Argentina with eight and seven cases, respectively.
In terms of industries, the metal sector was targeted the most followed by chemicals.
