Zhuhai Baota Petrochemical is expected to produce about 200mt of LPG per day after bringing on stream its Phase II project in mid-November, a refinery source said.

The product would be supplied to Zhuhai City and nearby areas, and the output would be gradually increased to about 400mt per day, according to the source.
The Phase II project includes a 1.5-mil-mt/yr crude distillate unit and an 800,000-mt/yr residue fluid catalytic cracker.

Baota Petrochemical's Phase I project, comprising of an 80,000-mt/yr polypropylene unit and a 200,000-mt/yr gas fractionation, became operational in the second half of 2009, as reported earlier. The refinery recorded unstable LPG supply to the market on insufficient feedstock raw gas for polypropylene unit.

With Baota Petrochemical's participation, the competition among LPG suppliers in Zhuhai would intensify due to limited local demand, industry sources denoted.

Currently, Zhuhai has two LPG terminals (Zhuhai New Ocean and BP Zhuhai), a producer (CNOOC Oil Base Group) and a depot (Zhuhai Gas).

Zhuhai Baota Petrochemical, located in Zhuhai City in South China's Guangdong Province, was co-funded by Ningxia Baota Petrochemical Group, Hong Kong Energy Group and Shenzhen Baota Petrochemical Investment Company. It was designed to refine crude, Russia M100 fuel oil and atmospheric residue.
