The ceremony of marking the 117 anniversary of the birth of Mao Zedong was held in Xiangtan on Dec. 25. Zhang Yan, secretary-general of the China National Red Tourism Coordinating & Leading Group Office attended the ceremony.

At 8:00 am that day, 117 university students started off from Dishui (Water-dripping) Cave and ran along the path that former Chairman Mao Zedong once covered during his childhood. At 3:00pm, nearly 1,000 university students gathered before the Statue of Mao Zedong at Xiangtan University. They performed a dragon show with variable forms such as the shape of "117". Later they decorated a dragon model with their loft aspiration declarations and sang revolutionary songs to cherish the memory of the great man.

After the ceremony, the handover of the flag of the red tourism ally was carried out among the Zhongshan Municipal Tourism Bureau, the Xiangtan Municipal Tourism Bureau and the Guang'an Municipal Tourism Bureau respectively on behalf the hometowns of the three Chinese great man Sun Yat-sen, Mao Zedong and Deng Xiaoping. The Guang'an Municipal Tourism Bureau took over the duty as the next chief of this ally in turns.
