China and Japan Scholars Share Research Findings on Bamboo and Wooden Slips of the Wu Dynasty

China and Japan Scholars Share Research Findings on Bamboo and Wooden Slips of the Wu Dynasty
The Sino-Japan Seminar on Bamboo and Wooden Slips of the Wu Dynasty unearthed in Changsha was convened in the city on March, 15.

Co-hosted by Changsha Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, Film, TV, Press and Publication and Changsha Bamboo and Wooden Slips Museum, the seminar brought together 40 experts and scholars from Japan and China summing up the achievements made on researches of bamboo manuscripts from the Wu Dynasty (222AD-280AD) of the Three Kingdoms period (57BC-668AD) during these years.

The Changsha Wu Dynasty Bamboo and Wooden Slips Research Institution was set up in Japan in 1996 rightly after discovery were unearthed that year. Since then, 22 Japanese scholars paid regular visits to China to exchange views with scholars of Changsha Bamboo and Wooden Slips Museum.

With an attempt to summarize the recent achievements made by Japanese scholars, this seminar can be called the first academic exchange over bamboo and wooden slips in such a large scale and at such a high standard held in the city.

Authorities invited from Chuo University of Japan, Peking University, Tsinghua University and Chinese Academy of Social Sciences attended the seminar. The scholars discussed and deliberated more than ten papers on Wu slips.

In addition, scholars from both sides carried out research on Wu slips with joint efforts and visited the bamboo and wooden slips museum to have a close study on those cultural relics.
