Taoping Qiang Minority Village Has Been Rebuilt

Write: Mukul [2011-05-20]

The Taoping Qiang Minority Village was first built in 111BC. It still maintains the original Qiang minority architectural style and is a classic example of Qiang architecture. The village, built with earth and stone, is located in the middle of a mountain and has a brook nearby. It used to be called the Mysterious Oriental Castle. Unfortunately, part of the village was destroyed in the 2008 Wenchuan Earthquake and to preserve the Qiang's cultural heritage a lot of effort and money has been put into rebuilding the village. After 2 years of work, re-construction of the village has been complete and has re-opened to public this past November. Even though modern construction methods and building materials were used, architects were careful to maintain the village's unique style and look. In addition to rebuilding the village a performance center, a Qiang History Museum, a Qiang Culture Education Center, a Sing and Dance Center, and 105 new Qiang Style Houses have been built around the village as well.
