Construction started for the Beichuan Earthquake Memorial

On Dec.28th, An earthquake memorial has started construction in Beichuan, Sichuan. The memorial will be 142,300 square meters and estimated to cost of 2.3 billion RMB. The first Earthquake Experience Center in China will also be built in the memorial, so people can experience earthquakes of different magnitudes. The main buildings of the memorial will be finished before May 12th, 2011.
Beichuan was the epicenter of the 2008 Sichuan earthquake. Thousands lost their friends and family during the earthquake. The whole town was moved and then rebuilt. This memorial will be built on the original town center. The memorial will also be a reminder of the importance of balance between humans and nature.
