According to news released by the Sichuan Transportation Administration, a highway connecting Wenchuan and Jiuzhaigou has been approved to start constriction next year. The highway will be about 359 km and will be complete in 2015. After completion it will only take 5 hours to drive from Chengdu to Jiuzhaigou. Since the highway has to cross the Min river canyon, 74.92% of the highway will be either bridges or tunnels.
This highway will be very important for the Tibetan area, Jiuzhaigou and Huanglong scenic spots, and other minorities who reside in Sichuan. It will also be the most convenient passage to connect Sichuan with northwest China and Middle East countries. Therefore they hope it will highly enhance the tourism industry in Jiuzhaigou.
