Write: Gadil [2011-05-20]

Taiwan and Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) cultural and economic councilors met Monday (Aug 30) and agreed to further strengthen bilateral cooperation.

Officials from the Hong Kong-Taiwan Economic and Cultural Cooperation and Promotion Council (ECCPC) and the Taiwan-Hong Kong Economic and Cultural Cooperation Council (ECCC) proposed enhancing exchange and cooperation, including in the areas of sea and air transportation and taxation.

Hong Kong Financial Secretary John Tsang, who is also ECCPC Honorary Chairperson, said enhanced exchange and cooperation would raise the global competitiveness of both sides.

Hong Kong will benefit from cooperation with Taiwan, as the latter's economy is expected to grow after the signing of the Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement (ECFA) with the Chinese mainland, said Lawrence J. Lau, former president of the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
