Recently, the open ceremony for the construction of LongqingBridge --- "the first gallery bridge" over the 800 meters OujiangRiver was held.
The LongqingBridge --- the only gallery bridge with inscriptions by Chinese ancient scholars, was destroyed by a war in mid May in 1949. In accordance with people s will, both party committees and governments of Longquan and Qingyuan counties decided to reconstruct the Longqing Bridge with people s strength, making the unique charm of Oujiang s first bridge reappear on Meixi river.
It was reported that the rebuilding of LongqingBridge would absorb the essence of arts from all other gallery bridges and outstand the local culture, making it a work of art appealing to both refined and popular tastes, while its original appearance will be maintained. The major project of LongqingBridge will be completed in October 1st, 2011 with a total investment estimated at 900 million Yuan. Funds will be collected by local raising funds, company donations, and government support.
Before destroyed, LongqingBridge was a cover bridge of stone and wood structure, with five holes and 36 halls, 140 meters long, 14 meters high, and 5 meters wide, which was named of JichuanBridge, TongfuBridge, ShouchuanBridge. The early reconstruction work was completed in 1924. The three Chinese characters Long Qing Qiao" on it was inscribed by educator Zhang Jian, a scholar at the end of Qing dynasty, and now a modern Chinese famous industrialist. It is the only gallery bridge inscribed by a scholar. Meixi Pier below LongqingBridge is the first dock across the upstream of OujiangRiver to connect Longquan and Qingyuan with Wenzhou in history. LongqingBridge is not only the thoroughfare connecting Zhejiang and Fujian, friendshipBridge connecting people of Xiaomei and Caoling, but also a good place for both villagers to play and rest.
The reconstruction of LongqingBridge will show people its history and culture of Long Qing and Meiling once again. As Longqing Bridge s supporting facilities, the construction of millennium shipping terminal, cultural corridor and Meiyuan will connect ancient big kiln, Zhukou, Huangtian ancient kiln, Longqing lounge Bridge, Ancient street of Xiaomei and Caoling, Xiaomei king temple, Huangnan temple, Huangnan lounge Bridge with Sun pit kiln and Kongkeng gallery Bridge, making it a golden route for rural tourism to Xiaomei, Zhukou, and Huangtian.
