Xiakou Flowers bloom in the World Expo

During the Expo, thousands of top-grade flowers as Anthurium andraeanum, maranta arundinacea, and Ananas comosus are blooming at the museums, among which, the yellow lilium also attract the visitors. How can the flowers from Quzhou, where the flower industry is not in large scale, be on the stage of the World Expo?

Since late Appril, we have sent 20 thousand of yellow lilium in 6 batches to the World Expo. On May 20^th, Li Donglin, who is in charge of sales in Zhejiang Laonongjia Ecofallow Agriculture Co., Ltd. told the reporter with a Taiwan accent.

What's Rare is Precious

The Laonongjia company, located in Quzhou, is invested by the Taiwan investors, and the general manager, sales managers and the flower professors are all from the north or middle part of Taiwan.

Since the first half of last year, the Taiwan businessman, Jiang Zhongkang has been to the mainland to look for the promised land for the flowers. The top-grade flowers are so delicated that it needs a very pure environment. It is easily infected with bacteria, which affect its growing. And Quzhou boosts its high quality of environment and water that it fits high-grade flowers. So the company set up its 0.2 km² high-grade flower industry park at Sanqingkou Village in Xiakou, 200 meters high above sea level. As the modern advanced enterprises in agriculture for middle or high grade flowers, Laonongjia mainly grows yellow lilium and gladiolus. When refered to why the yellow lilium had ties with the World Expo, the head said it s because of the concept as What's Rare is Precious .

In the mainland market, the lily includes five species as pink lily, light yellow lily, yellow and white lily, white lily and red lily. The yellow and white lily is the biggest one with its six petals in full bolossom reaching to 30 cm in diameter. Ninety percent of the lilies in our country is imported from Holland, New Zealand, or France. The price for normal seedball is 3 RMB, while the yellow and white lily seedball values as high as 8 RMB. Because of the high cost and the high requirement for the environment, no more than 5 companies that grow the yellow and white lily in Zhejiang.

At the beginning of this year, some flower dealers in Shanghai got connected with the Laonongjia Company, and ordered the yellow and white lily. So far, about 20 thousand lilies have been sent to the World Expo.

The promising market for flowers

The present flower market indicates a promising trend because of its increase at the speed of 15%-20% each year. Li Donglin said, the flower will be more attractive with the development of the living standard. The fresh cut flowers is a rising industry, and flower industry is at the top of agricultural industry, receiving a high investment return. Although it has been only one year since the company set up, it has provided flowers for many cities as Xiamen, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, and Nanjing. Now, there is 0.012 km² seedball park with the breeding of 1500 thousand seedballs every year.

The Laonongjia Company is aiming to explore a larger potantial flower consuming market by extending its industry park from 0.3 km² to 0.8 km² for the promising foreground and the convenient transpotation. Meanwhile, the tourists can cut fresh flowers in the park. The company will introduce some new species as sandersonia aurantiaca and colored zantedeschia. Sandersonia aurantiaca is said to be as beautiful as orange Chinese latterns and colored zantedeschia is still very rare in the domestic market.
