Seripisut said it was not right that Pol. Lt-Gen. Wiroj Chantharangsi, commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, had not taken full responsibility in the case and left it to a deputy national police chief to take charge.
"The Metropolitan Police Bureau has over 20,000 police personnel but a deputy police chief has to step in to take care of the case while the metropolitan police chief has been doing nothing apart from staying aloof," Seripisut was quoted by local news group The Nation as saying.
More than one month after the New Year's Eve bombings which killed three persons and injured 42 others, including nine foreigners, the police have not found any material clue about the criminals. On Monday, Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont dismissed Kowit Watana as Chief of Royal Thai Police for that he did not make any progress during the investigation into the bombings.
Meanwhile, acting police chief Seripisut, who was newly appointed, is widely trusted by the prime minister and the military. Council for National Security chairman Gen. Sonthi Boonyaratkalin said on Wednesday that he believed that Seripisut would make progress toward resolving some security cases, citing his skills and long experience in security matters.
"I have confidence in his capacity," said general Sonthi, who launched a military coup last September.
