Shanghai-Hangzhou High-speed Railway put into service
Two bullet trains, G5001 and G5002, simultaneously took off at 9:00am from Shanghai Hongqiao Station and from Hangzhou Station on October 26, symbolizing the formal operation of Shanghai-Hangzhou high-speed railway. Grand ceremonies were held in Shanghai and Hangzhou.
Construction of Shanghai-Hangzhou high-speed railway was started on February 26, 2009, totaling 202 kilometers in length, with a target speed of 350 kilometers per hour. Starting from Shanghai Hongqiao, the train runs through Minhang, Songjiang and Jinshan in Shanghai and Jiaxing and Hangzhou in Zhejiang, with nine stops in between, seven newly built in South Songjiang, North Jinshan, South Jiashan, South Jiaxing, Tongxiang, West Haining and Yuhang. A total of 80 pairs of trains are put into service, with a first-class seat costing 131 yuan and second-class seat 82 yuan.
