The 2nd China Yue Opera Festival opened on October 25. The festival is jointly organized by the Ministry of Culture and Zhejiang Provincial Government.
Yue Opera is the local art form of Zhejiang and a nationally popular drama type. Aiming at "a grand gathering for Yue Opera and a festival for the general public", the festival will showcase the great achievements of the development of Yue Opera over the past few years and show to the public the magnificence and exuberance of Yue Opera through brilliant stage performance, varied and interesting cultural activities and performance at the grass-roots level. Meanwhile, the festival marks the beginning of a new century of Yue Opera, and the organizing committee has, therefore, chosen "Yue 2010" as the theme of the opening ceremony of the festival, ingeniously integrating the yue in Yue Opera and articulating the essence of Yue Open seeking continuous development and pursuing excellence.
