Modern United Market will launch the Chinese New Year 2nd New Year Goods Festival at Hangzhou Farm Products Logistics Center in Gouzhuang from January 9 to 18. The festival will offer Hangzhou citizens a wealth of traditional Chinese New Year customs and exhibitions of New Year goods.

This year s festival will be of larger scale, and offer greater varieties of goods and activities than the one in the last year. On the eighth day of the twelfth lunar month (January 11, 2011), there will be eminent monks praying for good luck for Hangzhou citizens, and Laba porridge will be distributed to ticket holders. During the festival, celebrated and folk artists will write Spring Festival couplets for citizens. Having gone through preliminary auditions, wonderful folk art programs representing New Year traditions, such as traditional operas, quyi (Chinese folk art forms), acrobatic shows, and songs and dances, will be put on the stage every day.

Above all, the festival will offer high-quality distinctive New Year Goods at special discounts from all over the country, especially those from Taiwan, Shanxi and Xinjiang. The festival will also enable citizens to taste local delicacies in China, and to watch time-honored New Year traditions, such as making nian gao (glutinous rice cakes), zong zi (rice dumplings), puffed rice and jiu niang (sweet fermented rice).
