Wooden Movable-type Printing of Rui an Granted World Heritage Status

Wooden movable-type printing of Rui an, in the name of movable-type printing of China , was inscribed on the 2010 List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding, upon the approval of the fifth session of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage held in Nairobi, Capital of Kenya, on Nov. 15.

As the only wooden movable-type printing that has been preserved and still in use in China, the printing technique of Rui an has very high historical and cultural values and serves as the best evidence that movable-type printing originated in China.

According to Xinhua News Agency, acupuncture and moxibustion of traditional Chinese medicine and Peking opera were included in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, upon the approval of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in Nairobi on Nov. 16.
