Bookuu Book City, a subsidiary of Zhejiang Xinhua Bookstore, opened its Manhattan bookstore days ago in New York, which makes it convenient for local readers who love Chinese culture to buy Chinese books and also indicates that Zhejiang Publishing United Group has taken one steady step forward into overseas chain-store operations.
The bookstore in Manhattan is the second chain store opened by Bookuu after its Brooklyn bookstore. With a business area of more than 300 m2, the bookstore is located in 9 Elizabeth St., adjacent to the United Nations headquarters and the Wall Street. About 20,000 types of books in humanities, social sciences, science and technology, and health care and stationery such as the four treasures of the study are sold in the bookstore.
Xu Chong, deputy general manager of Zhejiang Xinhua Bookstore Group, said that in August this year, Zhejiang Publishing United Group set up a joint venture in America, Xinhua Bookuu USA Inc., and a website (http://xinhua.bookuu.com/) to offer online shopping service of 500,000 types of Chinese books for Chinese Americans.
