Recently, the first research report on the Economic Transformation and Upgrading Capability Index in China was released by the Research Institute of Zhejiang Businessmen s Open and Innovative Development, Zhejiang University of Technology.
The Economic Transformation and Upgrading Capability Index of Zhejiang Province is ranked fifth in the 2009 rankings. Ranked in the top 10 are Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Guangdong, Fujian, Shandong, Liaoning and Chongqing. Of the 11 cities in our province, Hangzhou, Ningbo and Shaoxing are ranked among top 3. It is also revealed that Zhejiang is ranked fourth in technological innovation and third in energy conservation and emission reduction.
This index system covers 7 aspects as follows: economic development, improvement of people s livelihood, scientific and technological innovation, industrial structures, nationalization level, energy conservation and emission reduction, and environmental protection. It is the first index system to assess the regional economic transformation and upgrading capability in a relatively scientific and systematic way in China. The assessment result may provide an invaluable source of reference for enterprises and governments to map out the economic transformation and upgrading strategy and to make policies.
