On Xihuan Road of Wenling City, billboards on both sides of the road are all topped with two black solar collector plates, with which the billboards are no longer carrying electric wires for power. These solar powered billboards, as part of the solar powered lighting system launched by the Bureau of Administrative Law Enforcement of Wenling, are new accomplishments in the application of new energy to outdoor advertising industry. With Xihua Road as Zhejiang's first new energy powered billboard avenue, a "green Wenling" is being highlighted by these low-carbon billboards.
According to Jin Haifeng, head of the advertisement company, over 700,000 RMB have been invested in building the solar powered billboards on Xihuan road, while the ordinary billboards would cost only some 300,000 RMB. He said that the more than doubled construction cost would however pay off in terms of the comprehensive benefits generated.
