To further reduce traffic emission, clean and efficient natural gas will be used to fuel 30 percent of buses and over 50 percent of taxis in Zhejiang Province by 2015, and will be further popularized in 50 percent of buses and 80 percent of taxis by 2020.
The scheme was released by Zhang Fuping, director of Coal, Petroleum and Natural Gas Division, Zhejiang Provincial Department of Energy, at the Forum on Energy Conservation and Emission Reduction and the Efficient Use of Natural Gas as a Clean Energy Resource during the 12th 5-year Plan recently closed in Hangzhou. Compared to gasoline-powered vehicles, natural gas vehicles are expected to drastically reduce traffic emission, and will be an effective way to improve atmospheric environment in cities.
