Zhejiang Provincial Department of Public Security revealed on December, 13th that Zhejiang police seized 800 kilograms of smokable methamphetamine on a fishing boat in the Port of Shipu in Xiangshan County this August, making it the biggest drug bust since the launch of the People s War against Narcotics in 2005.
According to persons-in-charge with the narcotics squad of Zhejiang Provincial Department of Public Security, thanks to the combined efforts from the squad and public security departments in Ningbo and Xiangshan, as well as provincial border defense departments, a special task force was formed. With support from police force in other provinces and cities and help from the Ministry of Public Security in coordinating the joint efforts, the task force seized a ship transporting drug in the Port of Shipu on August, 20th.
Five members of an international drug trafficking gang, most of whom are from Hong Kong, China, were arrested and 800 kilograms of smokable methamphetamine were seized. Since the case was supervised by the Ministry of Public Security, the task force was commended officially by the Ministry.
According to relevant statistics, in the first ten months of this year, a total of 432 drug trafficking gangs with 3 or more members and 91 gangs with 6 or more members have been destroyed by public security departments in Zhejiang Province, a year-on-year increase of 10.3% and 26.4% respectively. What s more, six criminal cases supervised by the Ministry of Public Security have also been solved.
