Zhejiang province conducted the 4th scientific literacy investigation from March to November last year. The subjects were targeted at citizens from 18 to 69 years old in our province. According to the work meeting in implementing the National Action Scheme of Scientific Literacy in Zhejiang on Jan. 12, the final result shows that people with basic scientific literacy in Zhejiang account for 5.60%, a remarkable increase compared with 2.76% of the year 2007. The percentage is also above the national average level of 3.27%, ranking the top in China, and is a little higher than that in some developed countries including Japan and west European countries at the beginning of the 1990s.
