In order to promote the implementation of the Outline of National Action Scheme of Scientific Literacy in Zhejiang in 2011, over 50 major science popularization activities of provincial scale will be arranged this year, with more than 2,000 activities in total around the province.
At the sixth session of the 8th Plenary Meeting (enlarged meeting) of the Provincial Science and Technology Association held recently in Hangzhou, it was announced that the percentage of citizens in Zhejiang with scientific literacy has reached 5.6%, ranking top among all the provinces in China, also exceeding the level of some developed countries, such as Japan and western European countries, in the early 1990s. The immediate goal set in the Outline of National Action Scheme of Scientific Literacy has thus been achieved with joint effort throughout the province.
