The only household appliance of Zhou Shaowen, a veteran soldier, is a black-and-white TV set. However, over the past decade, this Communist Party member of 50 years standing has made 118 donations of a total value of over 200 thousand Yuan. Thirteen common people, Zhou included, were nominated and made public by the provincial government for the third Zhejiang Charity Award.
Nominees also include the deceased Mr. Wu Guanzhong, a famous artist of Zhejiang origin who, at various times in his life, donated 56 pieces of his works and 16 collected items to the provincial government and China Academy of Art, and Lin Ping, who donated almost 50% of her liver to an 8-year-old girl of her village.
