The press conference of the first China Hangzhou Xixi Flower Goddess Festival was held in Shanghai on Feb. 28. This traditional Chinese festival of early spring will be restarted in Xihu District of Hangzhou to restore the traditional flower Goddess culture. The theme of this year s festival is to Blossom in Hangzhou and to Pledge Love in Xixi .
With a history of nearly a thousand years, the Hangzhou flower Goddess festival is a festival of affection, friendship and love among people. Mr. Zheng Rongsheng, Secretary of Party Committee of Xihu District, extended his invitation to the people of Shanghai as well as the people in the whole Yangtze River Delta area.
He said that being grass roots-based, folk-based and common people-based are the three features of this year s flower Goddess festival. Xihu District has its unique biological resources and a culture with a long history. The restoration of the flower Goddess festival will pass on the culture by picking up the pearl from the history.
The opening ceremony of this year s flower Goddess festival is to be held in the East Entrance Square of Xixi Wetland on April 9 and it will consist of three parts: the opening ceremony, a float parade and the experience of folklore. 12 floral vehicles featuring the flower Goddesses of the 12 months and 6 performance teams will be on show along the streets around Xixi Wetland.
