The Sixth Xixi Plum Flower Festival Kicks off

Write: Henderson [2011-05-20]

At the opening ceremony of the 6th Plum Flower Festival in the Xixi Wetland on the morning of February 25, a grand and romantic event with flowers and guqin (a plucked seven-string Chinese musical instrument of the zither family) was staged. It was customary to hold gatherings among scholars at Flower Fairy Festival in ancient times, so the culture of Han Chinese Clothing and guqin was incorporated into this plum flower festival.

Several pretty maids, attired in gorgeous Han Chinese clothing, glided amid plum flowers. They performed Horsetail Whisk Sword (a kind of Wudang Martial Arts) and Beauty Fist (a kind of dance), and gave a live performance of such ancient guqin tunes as Pingsha Luoyan (Wild Geese Alighting on the Sands), Liu Shui (Flowing Water) and Yi Guren (Memories of an Old Friend).

While visitors were appreciating flowers, they could also sample an exquisite cultural feast.
