The First Batch of Relief Supplies from China Arrived in Japan

The first batch of relief supplies from China to Tokyo, Japan arrived on the evening of 14th and would be shipped overnight to Miyagi Prefecture,the severely quake-and-tsunami-hit areas in northeastern Japan.

A charted flight departing from Shanghai landed nearly a hundred tons of relief supplies, including 12 person tents, 6 person tents, blankets and portable emergency lights at 20:46 Japan local time at Haneda International Airport. Minister Lv Kejian of the Chinese Embassy in Japan and Mr. Furutani, Chief of the Japan-China Economic Office of the Asian and Oceanian Bureau of the Japanese Foreign Ministry signed an exchange of notes at the airport to complete the transfer of materials.

Lv Kejian said that China was very concerned about the Japan earthquake and tsunami disaster, and he sincerely wished that Japanese people in disaster areas could overcome difficulties and rebuild their homes. Furutani told Xinhua News Agency reporters that he appreciated the support from China and the distressed areas were in great need of tents, emergency lights and other necessities.
