Spring plantation and afforestation in Zhejiang Province was gradually reaching the climax before March 12th, the Arbor Day . The Provincial Organizing Committee of Forest Concern Movement , Zhejiang Provincial Afforestation Committee and Zhejiang Provincial Department of Forestry launched the 1818 Plain Afforestation Campaign of Zhejiang Province in Linhai on March 7th. Mr. Xia Baolong, Vice Secretary of CPC Zhejiang Provincial Committee attended the launching ceremony and granted 3.8 million precious nursery stock to the representatives from 11 municipal forestry bureaus in Zhejiang.
Steadily increasing the plain afforestation area is one of the important goals in the ecological civilization construction in Zhejiang Province. During the 12th five-year-plan, plain afforestation will become the breach and highlight in the construction of Forest Zhejiang and the promotion of ecological civilization.
According to the layout plan, Zhejiang Province will realize an increase of 1.8 million mu in afforestation area, and reach a forest coverage rate over 18% by the year 2015. The 1818 Plain Afforestation Campaign involves six key projects including the construction of shelterbelt forests, forest passages, forest villages, forest cities (towns), forest grid and forest culture.
