Elderly population at an advanced age in Zhejiang Province has been showing a rapid increase rate recently. Population over 80 has a year-on-year increase of 50,000 in the province, reaching a total of 1,210,900. The number of centenarians has also seen a yearly increase of 186, reaching a record high of 1,234.
All these indicate that the province is rapidly changing from an elderly society to a society of advanced age. At a press conference held by the Information Office of Zhejiang Government this morning, Mr. Shi Limin, Deputy Secretary-General of the Provincial Government and Deputy Director of the Provincial Committee on Aging released The Basic Situation of Zhejiang Elderly Population and Population Aging Countermeasures.
The press conference was hosted by Mr. Yang Rongyao, Deputy Director of the Information Office of the Provincial Government.
