Lying in the southeast coast of China, Zhejiang Province has always been plagued by typhoons and floods. According to provincial meteorological departments, the province will be affected by one or two tropical depressions this year.

Mr. Pan Jinsong, Director of the Provincial Meteorological Bureau, said at the Working Conference on Flood and Typhoon Control and Drought Relief held on 18th, March that, the total amount of rainfall to be received by the southeast coastal area from March to September is expected to be 1300-1700 millimeters.

The amount expected to be received by northern Zhejiang, the heartland of central Zhejiang and part of southern Zhejiang will be 700-1000 millimeters. And the rest of the province is expected to receive a total of 1000-1300 millimeters rainfall. The plum rain season and flood season will probably bring short-term heavy rainfall and periods of intensive rainfall.

And some parts of northern as well as central Zhejiang might be plagued by flooding and inland inundation.

During the typhoon season, one or two tropical depressions are expected to severely affect or even land in Zhejiang. The provincial meteorological departments estimate that, compared with last year, these tropical depressions might strike earlier this year and cause more troubles in their passing. And some coastal areas might suffer badly from them.
