The provincial government held a special meeting to address the abnormal fluctuation in table salt market in some areas of Zhejiang on the morning of 17th. The meeting stresses that to guarantee the effective supply of table salt and people s health and safety is the primary task of the people s governments at various levels up against the abnormal fluctuation in table salt supply.
Panic buying of table salt was reported to occur in some parts of Zhejiang on March 16th. By 23:00 p.m., the sales volume of table salt in small packets amounted to 4000 tons, several times that of the normal daily sales volume on average, and therefore leading to a shortage in supply of table salt in Zhejiang.
The party committees and people s governments at various levels in Zhejiang pay high attention to this incident and have taken effective measures to prevent the panic buying from spreading so as to restore the normal order of the table salt market and maintain social harmony and stability.
