According to Zhejiang Provincial Economic and Information Technology Commission, it is forecasted that the highest power load for unified dispatch in the province will reach up to 50 million kilowatts in the coming summer peak season, a year-on-year increase of 18.9%, resulting in a power shortage of about 3.5 million kilowatts.

It is also learned that according to its electric power construction schedule, 2.6 million kilowatts of installed capacities will be increased this year in the province, half of which will be in operation before the peak consumption season and the rest will be in operation in the summer peak season. Besides, it is estimated that the total amount of generated capacities should amount to about 35.

7 to 36.5 million kilowatts for unified allocation this summer. What s more, 1100 kilowatts of power is guaranteed to be transmitted for summer peak consumption. Based on the estimates above, Zhejiang will face the largest electric power shortage of 3.5 million kilowatts at the power-consumption peak hours.

The shortage might be more serious due to unfavorable weather conditions and special circumstances.

Given the tight power supply-demand situation, Zhejiang Province will try every possible means to increase power supply capacities and make sure that the present electric generator sets will be in normal operation. Furthermore it will improve the power demand management and timely launch across the province the program of adjusting power consumption in order and staggering and avoiding the peaks of power consumption and restrict the power consumption of high energy-consuming industries so as to guarantee the power consumption of citizens in urban and rural areas and the consumption of other important customers.
