Zhongshanling Took an Important Step toward Application for World Heritage

Recently, the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of China (MOHURD) promulgated The 2nd Preparatory List of National Natural and Cultural Heritage of China, where Nanjing Zhongshanling Scenic Spot is selected, marking its successful entry into the application for dual world heritage.It is reported that only 8 scenic areas were selected and Zhongshanling is the only one from Jiangsu.

In 2008, Zhongshanling Administration submitted a dual-heritage application proposal to NOHURD by integrating the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen s Mausoleum (Zhongshanling), the Xiaoling Tomb of the Ming Dynasty and Liaozhongkai Tomb as a whole package.

In the past few days, experts of MOHURD made a comprehensive survey on resource value and mangement status of applicant places and released the 2nd Preparatory List of National Natural and Cultural Heritage of China to the public. Selected applicants include Anhui Tianzhu Mountain Scenic Area, Jiangxi Jinggang Mountain Scenic Area, Shanxi Hengshan Mountain Scenic Area, Sichuan Jianmen Shudao Scenic Area and Nanjing Zhongshanling Scenic Area, Jiangsu.

Yu Jinbao, inspector of Zhongshanling Administration introduced that, experts of MOHURD reviewed Zhongshanling and regarded the place of 31 square meters as competitive in China for its natural and cultural resources. Zhongshanling was qualified to apply for national natural and cultural heritage.

On July 4th, 2003, Nanjing Xiaoling Tomb of the Ming Dynasty was inscribed as part of theWorld Heritage by unanimous vote at the 27th World Heritage Convention held in Paris, France.
