Wailing Wall of Nanjing Massacre Extended by 26.5m

December 13th this year is the 73rd memorial day of Nanjing Massacre by Japanese Invaders. Victims of Nanjing Massacre Name List Wall extension project commence on December 12th. After completion, 1,655 names of victims will be added onto the wall.

The Memorial Hall of Victims of Nanjing Massacre by Japanese Invaders is located in Jiangdongmen. There is a project carrying the grief of the whole Chinese nation. the Victims of Nanjing Massacre Name List Wall , commonly referred to as the wailing wall . The wall is now 43m long and 3.5m tall. It was designed by Professor Qi Kang, academician of China Academy of Sciences.

When the wall was set-up in early 1995, there were only 3000 names on it. At the construction completion of Stage III expansion of the memorial hall, 5,600 names were added, filling up the wall. In order to engrave 1,655 newly added names of victims, the wailing wall will be extended by 26.5m toward the mass grave .

The whole project will be completed in the first quarter of next year. By that time, total number of names on the wall will be 10,324.

Curator Zhu Chengshan of the memorial hall introduced that, it is an important task to collect historical data of Nanjing Massacre. Due to years passed and chaos caused by wars, it is a really difficult job. The currently collected over 10,000 victim names were mostly from Nanjing Anti-Japanese War Loss Investigation Committee and Nanjing Massacre Enemy Crime Investigation Committee in early days after the war; survivals dictated testimony; published historical materials and names provided by victims families.

In the future, with more investigation, more names will be possibly added on the wall.
